However, this project was an ongoing gig that started a year ago in October when I was contacted by Stephanie Lile from the Washington State History Museum in Tacoma. She was contacting several illustrators in Seattle to contribute to an exhibit about explaining the concept of time to children. I jumped at the chance. When I met with her she asked me if I might be interested in doing more art for the exhibit and again I was thrilled to be asked.
It's a great thing to do art for a museum. I did something for an exhibit at the Pacific Science Center about 14 years ago and loved that experience and seeing my art blown up large in a museum.
We had originally talked about redoing some old paintings I had done and then doing a few more. That got extended when they wanted to do a two sided map for the school kids when they came to the museum.
The image I'm sending wasn't part of the package but I had to do this idea and send it to them... a freebie for being so nice to work with and getting paid quickly.
When the exhibit opened in the middle of May, schools were getting ready to end classes so schools didn't send any kids to the show. That made the museum rethink how long the exhibit would stay up. It was extended to April 2015, so there is still plenty of time to see "Ernest Oglby Punkwweiler and the Fabulous Miraculous Time Intrusionator" at the Washington State History Museum in Tacoma.
They also put most of the art from the exhibit in a book that is available at the gift store at the museum. There is talk of getting it onto Amazon but I haven't seen that yet.
